Successful FEMIB Study tour 2014 to the Netherlands

Frankfurt am Main, September, 2014. FEMIB – the Federation of the European Building Joinery Associations – successfully organised a study tour to the Netherlands which enabled more than 25 European participants to get an insight into the wood industry of the Netherlands and to establish new European contact. Promoting cooperation within Europe is an important task of FEMIB and leads to a strengthening of the sector in all European matters.

On September 3rd, the guests met in the hotel Nautisch Kwartier in Huizen. The hotel is directly located at the waterfront and a reference of windows and facade made by a member of the hosting Dutch association NBvT. It was starting point for excursions on September 4th and 5th to the production sites of Doornenbal B.V. in Veenendaal and Accsys Technologies in Arnhem. Further leaders of the Dutch market on windows, doors and curtain wall – Kegro Deuren B.V. in Groesbeek and the Timmerfabriek de Kievit in Ridderkerk and – were visited, too. The final destination was the factory of Gebr. Bodegraven BV in Nieuwkoop with focus on the window assembly and fastening. In all companies, the participants received comprehensive information and were able to watch the complete manufacturing process.

Besides, a very interesting item on the agenda was the city tour in Rotterdam, where an architect explained the participants the peculiarities of the local architecture. In the evening before, at a brewery meal there was the opportunity for a sincere exchange of thoughts. At that a presentation of an innovative material from plant fibres was given too, which can be an alternative in cladding.

Among others the main tasks of the association is lobbying activities with the members of the European Parliament, the European Commission and the European standardization. Common positions are the basis of successful influence. FEMIB-study tour 2014 to the Netherlands

Frankfurt am Main, April 2014. This year’s study tour of the Federation of the European Building Joinery Associations (FEMIB) goes to the Netherlands. From September 3rd to 5th, 2014 interested participants have the possibility to meet with other experts and exchanging over current topics.

The program shows excursions to several different window, door and façade manufacturers. A walkthrough of a new production line at a company is on the agenda as well as the visit of a supplier of connectors for window installation, for assembly of windows in the Netherlands and the visit of a lamination. In addition there will be a trip to a manufacturer for acetylating technologies and a specialized lecture of the inviting Dutch association NBvT about the market in the Netherlands.

The participant accommodation of the study trip is directly located in Huizen at the Ijsselmeer. The hotel „Nautisch Kwartier“ is thereby already a beautiful reference object in timber architecture as well as for window, door and facade construction.

Additionally to the program there are plenty of opportunities, to see country, people and architecture in detail for example during a round trip in Rotterdam. The complete program of the travel is located under www.femib.eu. Because participants from all over Europe are expected, the travel languages are English and German. The number of participants is limited, therefore a fast registration is recommended by latest July 1st, 2014.

New executive board in place

Helle Carlsen Nielsen

Frankfurt am Main, March 2014. This year at the general assembly of the Federation of the European Building Joinery Associations (FEMIB) in connection to the fair „fensterbau/frontale” in Nuremberg new biennially election for the presidency stood on the agenda.

With Mrs Helle Carlsen Nielsen from Denmark for the first time a woman was elected for president of the association.
The former president Anders Isaksson from Sweden will hold according the plan the position of the vice-president by FEMIB for the next two years and also the position of the EuroWindoor chairman. Furthermore Eduard Appelhans from Germany was selected as second vice-president of FEMIB.

NBvT from the Netherlands new FEMIB Member

FRANKFURT AM MAIN, December 2012. FEMIB, the Federation of the European Building Joinery Associations welcomed the Dutch Association of Joinery Companies, NBvT, during its Management Council meeting in Zürich as new member. The new member will be actively participating in the general FEMIB work as NBvT is expected to be a significant enrichment for FEMIB.

NBvT, the Dutch Association of Joinery Companies, founded in 1946, represents around 250 small, medium and large manufacturers of timber products, within the Netherlands, employing more than 6500 people. NBvT represents both corporate and individual interests, and it particularly covers topics such as technology and innovation, marketing and communication as well as social and legal issues. Through this, NBvT contributes to development and stimulation of building in wood, enhances innovations and contributes to overall quality regulations. Amongst others, member companies comprise carpenters and manufacturers of doors, staircases and roofs. For the near future, industrial building with wood, energy efficient construction, fire resistance and durability coating on wood will be major topics for NBvT

FEMIB is the voice of manufactures of the building joinery industry at a European level. Within this industry FEMIB covers, together with its member organisations, the main markets. FEMIB’s major tasks are political consulting and lobbying, targeting the European Parliament, the European Commission as well as European Standardization. For FEMIB, common positions are the basis for successful representation of interests.
As cooperation partner of EuroWindoor, FEMIB is part of a European network, representing more than 50,000 companies with around one million employees, ensuring that the position of building joinery is safeguarded within the European Union. Successful FEMIB Study tour to Switzerland

FRANKFURT AM MAIN, October 1st, 2012. FEMIB – the Federation of the European Building Joinery Associations – successfully organised a study tour to Switzerland which enabled more than 30 European participants to get an insight into the wood industry of Switzerland and to establish new European contact. Promoting cooperation within Europe is an important task of FEMIB and leads to a strengthening of the sector in all European matters.

On September 5th, the guests met in the Uto Kulm hotel which is located on the Uetli hill in Zurich and which was starting point for excursions on September 6th and 7th to the production sites of Stocker Fensterbau AG in Fenkrieden and 4B in Hochdorf. Further leaders of the Helvetian market on windows, doors and curtain wall – Erne AG in Laufenburg and his local neighbour Ernst Schweizer AG in Möhlin – were visited, too. The final destination was the factory of Glas Trösch AG with focus on the assembling procedures on laminated glass windows. In all plants the participants got comprehensive information and could watch the complete production processes.
Besides, a very interesting item on the agenda was viewing the uptown Zug building, the biggest structure of the canton Zug. This impressive construction is fascinating due to its extraordinary architecture, wood-metal combined windows and a green property certification.
Zurich with its beautiful unique position on the Zurich lake’s side was the perfect setting for a sightseeing tour through the attractive city centre. In the evening, having an original Swiss cheese Fondue was the opportunity for a sincere exchange of thoughts.

FEMIB Study tour to Switzerland

Frankfurt am Main, May 2012. FEMIB, the Federation of the European Building Joinery Associations operates again its annual study tour. The destination this year is Switzerland and interesting company visits along with an attractive social program have been arranged. From September 5th to 7th, interested participants have the occasion to get together and meet with other experts of the window and facade industry.

After a welcome dinner at the beautiful hotel at the top of Zürich with a magnificent view on the City, the participants start the next morning their 2-days excursion to visit manufacturers of wood and wood-metal components and the production of glass. The “UPTOWN Zug”-building is inspected, an 18-storey structure with the greenproperty label for sustainable buildings and equipped with wood-metal windows.

In addition to the company visits, time is left for a Swiss evening and the city of Zurich itself will be explored on a guided tour.

FEMIB welcomes its new member SZFF

Frankfurt am Main, July 2011. FEMIB, the Federation of the European Building Joinery Associations welcomed the Swiss association for windows and facades SZFF during its Management Council meeting in Copenhagen as a new member. "We are very happy with the membership of SZFF, Switzerland is a country with a long tradition in timber construction," said Frank Koos, General Secretary of FEMIB.

For more than 40 years SZFF is the Swiss association for windows and facades and has currently over 160 member companies. The SZFF has extensive expertise in the window and facade technology. In the wood sector the SZFF represents a strong group of manufacturers of wood-metal windows. Wood-metal in Switzerland has a market share of around 30%. This year's FEMIB study trip from August 31st to September 2nd is also going to Switzerland.

Successful FEMIB study tour to Sweden

FRANKFURT AM MAIN, June 25th, 2010. FEMIB – the Federation of the European Building Joinery Associations – successfully organised a study tour to Sweden, where more than 30 European participants got an insight into the Swedish wood industry and were able to establish new European contacts. The promotion of European cooperation is an important task of FEMIB and leads to a strengthening of the sector in all European matters.

From the southern Swedish city of Växjö, named „greenest city in Europe“ by the British BBC, the group visited between June 16th -19th factories of Elitfönster AB, Sweden’s largest window manufacturer with the fabrication of wood and wood-aluminium windows and its own glass production. At Bordörren AB the production of wooden external doors was inspected. In all factories the participants received extensive information and were able to see the entire production process. A presentation of Assa Abloy, the world leader in closure systems with Swedish-Finnish roots, and a guided tour of the new quarter Välle Broar in Växjö, where residential and university buildings are developed in wood construction, completed the program.

The landscape around Växjö is dominated by forests and lakes and is home to the „Kingdom of Crystal“, a region with many famous glass factories. During a typical Swedish „Hyttsill“ with herring and other specialities, the participants had the opportunity to blow glass, not a simple matter, as the results showed. After four busy days the tour ended and the participants were able to take new impressions and contacts on their way home.

FEMIB Study Tour 2010 to Sweden

Frankfurt am Main, April 2010. Sweden is the destination of the 2010 Study tour of FEMIB, the Federation of the European Building Joinery Associations. From June 16 – 19, 2010, just before Midsommar, the traditional Midsummer festival, participants have the opportunity to meet with others guests and the Swedish colleagues.

The group travels to the southern Swedish region of Småland. The area is surrounded by forests and many lakes and is one of the scenic highlights in Sweden. Participants will stay in the city of Växjö and start from there to visit companies in the area. Sweden’s largest window manufacturer in Vetlanda and a producer of doors and gates in Bor are visited in addition to other companies. An interesting topic is the visit to a new settlement in Växjö, which is completely built from wood, including many multi-storey buildings.

There will also be enough time to get to know Swedish food and traditions. A typical Swedish evening, Hyttsill, and a visit to the famous Kingdom of Crystal in Kosta complete the program. An individual extension of the trip is possible.

FEMIB Study tour to Austria a complete success

European wood window manufacturers meet in Graz

FRANKFURT AM MAIN, 24. September 2009. FEMIB – the Federation of the European Building Joinery Associations – successfully organised a study tour to Austria in September, where the 31 European participants got a good impression of the Austrian wood industry and were able to establish especially European contacts. The promotion of European cooperation is an important task of FEMIB and leads to a strengthening of the sector in all European affairs.

From 8. – 11. September, starting from Graz the Internorm factory in Lannach for the production of wood-aluminum windows and the Stabil factory in Gabersdorf for the production of windows and doors of different frame materials were visited, amongst others followed by the Haas Group in Großwilfersdorf with the local factory for prefabricated houses and the Gaulhofer window factory in Übelbach.

In a meeting with the Association of the Austrian wood industry, the participants received information on the local market, along with data from several European markets which were then discussed. A guided tour through the UNESCO World Heritage of the Old town of Graz, and not least the pleasure of Austrian cuisine completed the program. After 4 sunny days it was time to say good-bye to Styria.

FEMIB Study Tour Austria 2009

Frankfurt 3. April 2009. Austria is the destination of this years study tour of FEMIB, the Federation of the European Building Joinery Associations. From 8 - 11 September 2009, interested participants have the opportunity for an exchange of experiences and to collect impressions.

Styria is a center of the woodworking industry and destination of the journey. Starting from Graz, 4 leading companies of the Austrian wood industry are visited. Guided tours of the factories allow the participants a comprehensive insight into the production of wooden windows, doors and prefabricated houses. In addition, a meeting with a representative of the Association of the Austrian Wood Industries and a tour of a passive house are part of the program.

Besides the official part of the journey time will remain for a city tour in Graz and, not least, for culinary delight. Whoever wants to may individually extend his stay and, for example, spend a weekend in Graz ? the European Capital of Culture 2003.
